As Club Professional at Portpatrick Golf Club, and with over
10 years of expert golf industry experience, James is passionate about the game of golf and thrives in the all round
duties of a Club Professional.
James is a local lad and learned how to play the game at Portpatrick Golf Club,
his father introduced him to the game at the age of 5 at the local putting green. James then followed the path
for most local children to the junior section at Dunskey where he spent most of his childhood on the par 3 Dinvin course before
continuing on to winning the Junior Club and Wigtownshire Boys championships.
Player, teacher, club fitter, buyer, retailer
and trainer of future Professionals are some of his job titles but the greatest satisfaction comes from interacting with the
members and guests in a Golf Club environment. James creates a warm and friendly atmosphere in the Pro Shop making
both members and visitors feel very welcome.
James Erskine has been Club Professional at Portpatrick Golf Club
since March 2010, he joined Portpatrick from Dumfries & Galloway Golf Club where he was Head Assistant
Professional for 4 years
James started his Professional career at Dumfries & Galloway Golf Club In
2001 under the guidance of Joe Fegusson, and qualified as a PGA Professional three years later. From here he furthered
his career for a few years developing junior golf in the South of Scotland at over 14 local Golf Clubs and in the local
schools over this time producing some of the best junior and senior golfers in the county with many of his pupils
winning regional titles.
James is a dedicated coach who gets involved in all the performance aspects of the
sport in order for his pupils to achieve their goals. James is currently coach to many of the South of Scotland
County players both senior and junior level, Galloway Ladies and Wigtownshire boys Squad combined with performance
coach to the University of Stirling Futures Squad. Among all of the duties he regularly tries to compete on the Tartan
and Optical Express Tours with some success. (2 Tartan Tour Victories 2005 and the Cleveland Srixon Grand Slam
of Golf Champion 2011)
